I marvel at the stars I can see on a clear night, even though I realize there are trillions more I cannot see. Others are amazed at the splendor of the Grand Canyon. Still others stand in awe at the dazzling colors of a sunset. Yet even these examples of God’s creative handwork do not compare to the marvels creation will display in the future. Perhaps the psalmist included this future glory when he invites us to sing praise to God. He writes in Psalm 96, “Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise. Let the fields and the crops burst out in joy! Let the trees of the forest rustle with praise before the LORD, for he is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice and the nations with his truth.” By attributing human qualities to creation, the psalmist anticipates Paul’s statement, recorded in Romans 8. The Apostle writes, “All creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay.” When God gives His people new bodies, He will restore the physical creation. Today, we marvel at creation despite its curse. Just think of the beauty we will behold when God removes the curse.
