If a person breaks God’s moral laws 10 times a day—either by violating one or falling short of doing good—by the end of life, he or she would rack up ¼ million sins. Because of God’s perfect holiness, just one failure qualifies us for eternal death. Whether we admit it or not, we all owe this debt to God for violating His righteous laws. Many try to satisfy this debt by doing nice things for others. While it is right to be kind to others, we can never find favor with God by our puny efforts. That is why God sent His Son into the world. Jesus’ perfect sacrifice fully pays our sin debt and gives us favor with God. But for this to be effective for us, we must by faith humbly accept God’s gift of Jesus into our lives. In Romans chapter 3, Paul says, “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned, we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” This amazing truth should be shouted all over the world.
