Health experts urge us to maintain a sound diet of dairy products, meats, fruit, vegetables, grains, and oil. An unbalanced diet causes the breakdown of our organs, bones, muscles, brains, and nervous systems. So it is not surprising that when Jesus came to carry out His mission, He made it very comprehensive. His goal was to satisfy every human need. We read in Luke chapter 4 that in the synagogue at Nazareth, Jesus quoted the words of Isaiah the Prophet as His mission: “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.” Then He said, “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!” The mission Jesus carried out showed His concern for the total needs of people: spiritual, physical, emotional, and volitional. The complete fulfillment of His mission awaits His return. But even today, followers of Christ help fulfill His work. We proclaim the Good News that Jesus saves all who place their faith in Him who died for our sins; and we also help needy families find housing and jobs, and have healthy bodies.
